People’s Forum Socials

Socials are an excellent way of raising funds which help to cover the additional costs of producing a forum. They are all a great opportunity for supporters and the wider community to get together, network, meet new friends and have fun.

Dinners are a brilliant way to raise funds, they’re relatively low stress and low effort with opportunities for additional fundraising activities such as a raffle. The restaurants get excellent publicity and it’s a good way of supporting local businesses.

Raffle prizes have taken the form of Jeremy’s famous and extremely popular home-made jam, donations from volunteers, supportive cafes donating a lunch, T Shirts and basically whatever other fun things we can lay our hands on.

The dinners also included special guest speakers such as Dr James Smith and Ewa Jasiewicz who gave their eye-witness accounts of being on the Global Sumud Flotilla which broke aid sanctions. We also hosted Mike Jackson during Pride month, he talked about co-founding ‘Lesbians & Gays Support the Miners’ alongside spoken word artist ‘Bush Queen’.

‘Pal-entines’ Speed Friending for Comrades

We have also held other fun socials such as ‘Pal-entines’, an anti capitalism alternative to Valentines Day which saw comrades get together for ‘speed-friending’ games. We were joined by special  guest Chris Smalls - U.S. activist who took on multi billion dollar union busting corporation Amazon, and won!

We held our Quiz Nights in local pubs but they would work just as well in a community centre or cafe setting. Again, a neat little fundraiser for the forums and a fun and informal opportunity for friends old and new to get together. To get your quizmeister juices flowing, feel free to use some of our quiz questions.
