September 2024 Forum

Housing

The first Islington North People's Forum discussed housing issues, including affordability and tenant rights. Attendees advocated for rent controls, more tenant associations, and repurposing empty properties. We were joined by Acorn, Streets Kitchen and Islington Homes for All.

November 2024

Forum

Mental Health

This Forum discussed the impact of cuts and political choices on mental health, advocating for improved funding and services. We called for greater NHS/Council engagement and participant led discussions. We heard from Mind Islington, The Stress Project, Nafsiyat and The Stuart Low Trust.

May 2025

Housing

70 residents gathered at the Andover Community Centre to discuss local housing issues, from rogue landlords to repairs and disability access. The event was led by Acorn tenants union, capturing creative campaigning ideas and resident led action points

Workers rights and the gig economy

This Forum discussed the workers rights and the gig economy. We heard from IWGB, the Islington Trades Council and Bob Jeffry from Sheffield University on the CAPE report

What’s Next for the People’s Forums

Jeremy invited community activists to discuss the achievements and challenges of the People’s Forums after the first two years and to figure out how to take the Forums sustainably into the future on a fully volunteer basis.
